I’m Tracy Cross, a ceramic artist and the founder of Clayways, based in Aston, near Nantwich in Cheshire.

I started Clayways in 2024 after years of developing my own ceramic practice in other studios, including five years teaching classes at The Firs Pottery near Nantwich. Sharing my love of clay remains an important part of what I do, alongside creating my own work and making pieces especially for others.

My work is inspired by organic forms, natural shapes and the possibilities of clay. I particularly enjoy combining wheel thrown elements with handbuilt sculptural forms, allowing each piece to develop its own character. Sometimes that means a practical object with an unusual twist; sometimes it becomes something more expressive and sculptural.

Commissions are a particular pleasure. I love working with someone’s idea, however unusual, and exploring how to bring it to life in clay. Through Clayways’ Forever Notes collection, I also create personalised ceramics that preserve handwriting and meaningful messages, turning something deeply personal into a keepsake to treasure.

Whether I’m making a sculptural piece, a thoughtful gift or a bespoke commission, I want it to feel individual, full of character and made with care. For me, that personal connection is one of the loveliest things about working with clay.
